Someone with more control knowledge might help you if you want it all on one thermostat and it will have to be the correct model for doing that. The boiler is set at 74 and the gas is set at 70 or something. If the wiring and control is totaly escaping you you might want to invest in a furnace man for a few hours but you need to be able to tell him exactly what you want done which is simply switch the fan on high speed and off with a thermostat for the boiler heat and the gas furance and control gets left alone. Now I dont want to add to your confusion at this point but the one and only potential problem with this type of control is that if you let the fire go out on the boiler the fan is going to run continuously as the thermostat is going to be calling for heat that cant be delivered, Got it? The gas furnace will still cycle its burner to maintain the heat setting of that thermostat but the boiler ‘stat is going to keep the fan running all the time. This would be the only reason I can think of to have the second aqua-stat mounted somewhere to sence heat in the exchanger. No heat in the water, the fan cant run. For all the added complication I just plan to keep the fire going. If it goes out then I can shut the fan on switch to off or simply turn the boiler thermostat down and the fan quits running except when called for by the gas furnace.

If it is correct then the answer to your question is Yes, you can use one thermostat to both heat and cool by rewiring it. To rewire it, I would swap the extension cord connectors, so that the male connector is on the right and you have two female connectors on the left. Plug the heater into one, and plug the cooler into the other.
Honeywell thermostat wiring instructions for 4 & 5 wire applications. Learn how to wire basic thermostats and digital thermostats to operate heat and cooling. If wires pass through a floor and up into a wall cavity before reaching a thermostat. Try the following.
Troubleshooting Guide Baseboard heater strips come from the manufacturer with built-in thermostats. They do the job that they were designed to do, but they have drawbacks. First, quite often using them means getting down on the floor and crawling under or behind tables to adjust them. Second, if you have two or more baseboard heaters in the same room, you have to adjust each of them individually. It is much more convenient and efficient to connect the baseboard heaters in parallel and hook them up to one wall-mounted, across-the-line thermostat.
Measure and mark a spot 5 feet up from the floor. Use an electronic stud finder to make sure that you will not be drilling or cutting into a wall stud. Draw an outline around it.

Home Improvement How to Connect a Programmable Thermostat to a Gas Furnace A programmable thermostat helps reduce your heating costs by automatically turning down your system when you are away. With a programmable thermostat, you can determine what the temperature inside your home should be at set times of day and days of the week. During the times when you’re not at home, your furnace will consume less fuel because it will maintaining a lower temperature.
The installation and connection process is the same for all furnace types, whether natural gas, propane, oil or electric. This will cut off power to the thermostat. Remove the thermostat cover plate by undoing the screws or clips holding it in place.
A smart thermostat is a great accessory to have, not only to be able to adjust your home’s temperature from your phone, but to also save money on your utility costs. Here’s how to install and set up the Nest Learning Thermostat in your own home. Warning: This is a project for a confident DIYer.
Cordless drill Video of the Day Turn off power to your forced air furnace. This is done by turning off the breaker in the circuit breaker panel. Open the furnace access panel and look for the control board. The thermostat wire will connect to a terminal strip on it. Make note of what wire connects to what terminal. For a simple home heating and air conditioning system, normally the red wire is on the “R” terminal, the white wire is on the “W” terminal, the yellow wire is on the “Y” terminal, and the green wire is on the “G” terminal.
Close the access panel and head to where your existing thermostat is located. If the old thermostat is still there, you’ll need to remove it, disconnect the wires, and remove the wall plate. Mount the new thermostat wall plate to the wall using drywall anchors and screws. Level it with your level. If not, strip them with your wire stripper. Connect each wire to the thermostat in the same fashion that they are connected to the furnace in step 2.
Connecting a Thermostat to fan for room ventilation.
By howandsometimeswhy One of my issues with building instruments during the winter is that my garage is not heated. I have an electric baseboard heater mounted to the front of my workbench. I have a little ceramic heater that I sometimes use toward that end. I have on occasion used my little ceramic heater to dry necks.
How to Hook Up a Home Thermostat – If you need to install a new thermostat then you have found the right place to learn. Below we will describe to you how to hook up a digital thermostat, hook up a programmable thermostat, or hook up any type for that matter.
I noticed a problem right away with trying to maintain a comfortable temperature in the rig. It seemed like there were large swings in temperature between the furnace or the AC on and off cycles. Also with the analog type slider knob it was hard to precisely adjust the temperature. I did a little research on the web and found many people had upgraded to a digital type thermostat and were happy with the results.
Most of the articles recommended using the Hunter brand Model B, as it was capable of controlling the cooling and heating, plus the fan function. I was able to find one in a local hardware store. They are available here at Amazon as well. Mounting the unit is no problem, just take off the OEM thermostat and use the existing hole and wires.
These are the colors used in my Keystone Cougar. Try to see what if the colors are the same on your OEM thermostat before you unhook everything. Also, you need to program in the span setting. This tells the thermostat when to come on and turn off.
What you will learn in Thermostat Wiring Colors Code article: What thermostat wire color is likely to go to which terminal on the thermostat. Basic electrical safety and standards for wiring color The function of each wire terminal on the average thermostat. Additionally highlighting some of the differences in those functions from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Digital thermostats use a simple device called a thermistor to measure temperature. This is a resistor which allows electrical resistance changes with temperature. The microcontroller in a digital thermostat can measure the resistance and convert that number to an actual temperature reading.
This information is designed to help you understand the function of the thermostat to assist you when installing a new one, or replacing or up-grading an old one. The thermostat is the control device that provides a simple user interface with the internal workings of your homes climate control system. By the use of an adjustable set-point, the job of the thermostat is to turn on either the heating or cooling system to maintain the desired room temperature in the home, and to turn off the system when the desired temperature is achieved.
They connect to a two-wire thermostat generally a mechanical thermostat with a mercury filled ball connected to a coiled bi-metal strip. A basic two-wire thermostat can be compared to a simple single-pole switch that you will find throughout your home, only instead of you turning the switch on and off as required, a mechanical or electronic temperature controlled mechanism is the operator of the switch. They usually operate at 24V ac power, and the source of this control power comes from a control transformer mounted either just outside, or inside the furnace body.
In this the most basic of heating systems, as the temperature of the heat exchanger rises, another contact is closed on the line voltage side of the equation, and the fan blower motor starts moving air through the heat exchanger and out through the ducting in the home.

Technically it is possible to use a smart thermostat such as the Nest with electric baseboard or wall heaters, but we no longer recommend it. We no longer recommend that you attempt to install a smart thermostat to use with our products. We even began the process of bringing new parts and products into our system so we could sell the solution directly. Even though we have performed successful testing with the Lyric and Nest thermostats in our engineering lab, we have concerns about the ongoing reliability and durability of this work around.
How do we replace an old 3 wire thermostat with a 4 wire one? We have an AC/heating unit, but the wiring for the thermostat does not have a yellow wire. What can we do? How to hook up new 5 wire HVAC cable to newer HVAC unit with only 2 wires coming from it?? WITH PHOTOS.
Below we will describe to you how to hook up a digital thermostat, hook up a programmable thermostat, or hook up any type for that matter. Whether the old thermostat is bad or not if you simply want to replace your old one and hook up a new one the first thing you need to take into consideration is to select the right replacement thermostat. To select the correct replacement you need to know what kind of HVAC equipment you have in your home or where you want to hook up the new thermostat.
There are numerous types of air conditioner and heating combinations so in this article we will cover a basic gas furnace and air conditioner split system HVAC system. Thermostat Wiring Colors Code – Learn More about the Thermostat Installation opens in a new window How to Hook Up a Home Thermostat If you do not know what kind of unit you have take a look at the paperwork from the last time the unit was serviced.
Perhaps it will show the type of equipment on the service ticket where the unit had maintenance. It is assumed that most people will know what kind of unit they have so that they can select the proper thermostat. It is best to place the thermostat in the same location as the old thermostat.

I really appreciate your info and it gives me a lot of ideas. One problem with any manual thermostat solution that’s not automatic is this: I could trivially put another switch breaking the thermostat line on the wall near the door, but it’s not exactly what I need. The scenario that I’m trying to avoid is that my wife has a garage control on her key-chain and has accidentally hit it a couple of times in her pocket or purse.
Wiring Set-Up Explained What I would like you to know is the information detailed below is based on the industry standard, yet not all thermostats will work this way simply because letters and numbers are used as well as color.
Long day and its dark, cold and I’m really tired. But, I am gonna go back to the air handler to see if I can find a fuse. If I can, I’ll see if its blown and replace it. The thermostat wires are isolated, none are shorted or are shorting each other out, touching in any way. Theyre also marked with stickers. Why ask me the same questions over and over?
Is not that uncompromisable. I mean I didnt think typing the model number’s letters and ‘s were needed to be posted repeatedly. Maybe its difficult to comprehend what I have posted and i will be glad to post the same model numbers that I have already posted. But really y’all, aint we beyond that point? I really didnt think we had time to repeat post after post all night. But then again, maybe I’m being way to articulate with the info and need to slowwww down a bit.
Which I can do that too if that what y’all really need. Tell y’all what, I’m going down to the air handler to see if theres a fuse there and if its blown I am going to replace it.
Remote Control Thermostats
To wire a thermostat, you must first be aware of the type of system that you have in your home. The thermostat wiring on these systems can have very similar wiring properties. But what if you have a system that’s a little different like a Heat Pump System, Then your thermostat is going to be wired a little different as well. First and foremost when you go to wire a thermostat, if you have any doubt of the type of HVAC system you have and are uncomfortable with wiring, then I highly recommend using a qualified HVAC service technician to complete your task.
This could save you a lot of unnecessary expenses in the long run. Now the thermostat circuits I will be covering will consist of the two scenarios I mentioned above.
Paul Suarez Karl, We updated this posting today in light of new information we recently received. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly. Karl Dieter Erdmann cadetheat: Nest thermostats have batteries so as long as you hook up the wires correctly they will work fine. Jimmy I think the RC T does not have the transformer like the and so you have to buy it separately to power the Nest.
What are the heater models you want to connect to this thermostat? What are the voltages and wattages of the heaters? Are they in the same room or area no door between the heaters?

The thing will run without it, the better the climate, the better it will run. And if you’re running a full-flow oil filter the main bearings will last about as long. But that’s it; that’s the limit of the ‘benefits’ you’ll receive from re-designing the Volkswagen engine, because that’s what you’ve done; you’ve told generations of superbly qualified engineers to stick it in their ear, you know a better way to do it.
Unfortunately, without the thermostat your jugs will wear like a bitch, as will your valve guides; you’ll burn more gas, suck a lot of oil and have a hell of a time passing your smog check.
You will need to obtain replacement thermostats before you begin. Are you sure that the thermostat is bad? Before you conclude that they need to be replaced you should test them. See the article ‘ Testing Water Heater Thermostats ‘ for more information on how to conduct a test. A common problem that may seem like the thermostat is a bad heating element. Not quite sure what your problem is?
